BEASTIE COLLABORATOR MONEY MARK HAS FIRST ON JACK JOHNSON LABEL
Money Mark has released his Brushfire Records debut ‘Brand New by Tomorrow’ and as with each of his previous albums is unique in it’s own way. Mark, perhaps best known as a producer and retro keyboardist, who has worked countless times with The Beastie Boys and The Dust Brothers Production Team, has signed on with Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records after the two did some touring and recording together on Jack’s previous albums. |
We caught up with Mark to discuss his recording approach. |
“Every record is different, like every birth is different. Sometimes it’s quick and sometimes it’s agonizing. But what comes out in the end, every record I’ve made is a unique journey. This one I kind of made the record in my head rather than in the studio like my previous records which were recorded in my home and my studio’s right there and I can just fall out of bed and turn the recorder on.” |
So after coming up with most of the songs on ‘Brand New By Tomorrow’ in his head, Mark also decided to take a unique approach to recording the demos around the city, rather than in the comforts of his own home. |
“But this one I was with my guitar and a little casio keyboard and tape cassette recorder and I went to parks and I went to the ocean and I sat under a tree and I wrote some songs. So, I wrote the songs first then I decided later how they were going to sound. So it’s more traditional, more like song writing.” |
Money Mark, is the alias of Mark Ramos-Nishita, who was born in Detroit but moved to the West Coast when he was young and after honing his musical skills he hooked up with The Dust Brothers Production Team where he later met the Beastie Boys and the rest as they say is Rock and Roll history! |
