CHRISTINA RICCI WRESTLES SEXUAL DEMONS IN BLACK SNAKE MOAN

Christina Ricci gives one of the bravest performances of her career in Black Snake Moan playing a nymphomaniac who has her sexual demons exorcised by Samuel L. Jackson chaining her to a radiator until her urges subside.

On the set of the film following a scene where her character is raped and beaten, Christina discusses why she felt compelled to do the controversial role.

“The whole idea you take someone’s dignity away from them so early on and you expect them to behave in any dignified manner is an idea I talk about sometimes when I’m on my soap box. So when I read this, it was that’s exactly what I’m talking about. I just loved it. I thought it was so honest and kind of really showed no judgment towards things that we as a society judge left and right. She has no concept of what it means to control yourself. She has no control over her impulses whatsoever.”

Christina describes the title of the film.

“The black snake is that evil soulless part of you that drives you crazy, who kind of creates this behavior that keeps you spiraling downward and downward and downward. I think the point for us in this is trying to shake that black snake, shake that feeling.”

An avid supporter of RAINN, the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, Christina took the role in the hopes of creating more awareness for these victims who often become sex addicts because of abuse.
