RUN DMC NAMED BEST RAP GROUP OF ALL TIME

MTV names Run-DMC the best rap group of all time. N.W.A., Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, OutKast, and the Fugees also made the list.

After unveiling the 10 Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time and the 10 Greatest Solo MCs of All Time, MTV’s musical brain trust premiered The Greatest Hip Hop Groups Of All Time, this weekend on MTV2.

Run-DMC was crowned the greatest rap group of all time. Following them were N.W.A., Public Enemy, OutKast, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, Salt-N-Pepa, Fugees, and, finally, UGK.

“We’re not looking for props as much as we’re looking for transforming lives. That’s the furthest thing from my mind is you know… I heard somebody ask Ludacris something like. It was really…I didn’t like the question. They ask, ‘So when do you think you will start getting the respect of a legend?’ I was like that has nothing to do with it if you’re here to do something.”

To qualify, the group had to consist of at least two rappers and couldn’t simply be a duo like Eric B & Rakim or Gangstarr, consisting of one rapper and one deejay. Noticeably absent from the list were the Beastie Boys, 8Ball & MJG, and the Geto Boys.
