KERRY WASHINGTON OWNS UP TO THE OTHER WOMAN
Kerry Washington stars as the possible other woman who tempts Chris Rock’s bored but happily married man in I Think I Love My Wife. Kerry is a modern woman and a feminist so playing the opportunistic Nikki who uses her wiles instead of her wits to win men was against her personal beliefs. |
However Kerry saw this role as an opportunity to empower women in relationships with men. |
“I’m playing a tart and I think it’s really important to play this woman because Nikki is so interesting to me. In some ways she’s so confident and free spirited and adventurous and she’s comfortable with her body. She’s comfortable with her sexuality. She owns her strength in a certain aspect of her life. And in a lot of other ways she’s very insecure. She thinks a man has to take care of her and so I think she’s a complicated modern woman. She’s a great example of the difficulties in defining our independence and figuring out our boundaries in relationship with men.” |
Even though Nikki is beautiful on the outside, Kerry says writer/director Chris Rock exposed her insecurities on the inside. |
“You know it’s important Chris really sculpted her to not be the hero in the end. So you have this idea of what’s beautiful on the outside isn’t always healthy on the inside. And I think that’s important for women too, that no matter how much money we pay to get our hair done and our nails done and our face be, you know that it doesn’t fix what’s inside if there are insecurities inside, we have to address those insecurities.” |
Next Kerry goes from playing a seductress to a blind sculptress in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. |
