CONSEQUENCE COOL WITH SLOW START
Avenged Sevenfold will team with Black Veil Brides, Hollywood Undead, and Asking Alexandria for the “Buried Alive” tour while HU talks about love ’em or hate… |
Rapper Consequence released his debut album, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, earlier this month and the set debuted at Number 113 on the Billboard 200 albums chart after selling 7,000 copies its first week in stores. While to some it would seem like a disappointing start, Consequence is upbeat as the 7,000 copies sold was enough to land him the Number One slot on the Billboard Best New Artist chart. |
Consequence explained, “I put my album through Red (Inc. Distributions) because I didn’t know when I was gonna be able to utilize the machine, which is Sony. The machine is the part of the company that puts out Beyonce records or puts out John Legend records or records that they know is gonna make money.” |
“You know everybody chillin outside and you see this gold Benz. Gold I think it was either 300 or 190E comes through, you know it’s now Rev Run but its Run, it’s DJ Run back then, you know what I’m sayin’, he get out and come kick it with us. It was just one of those like magical nights that you never forget in your life. Then Busta comes, then Phife comes out the crib cause Phife live right up the block from the cleaners. And we like all gettin’ it in and you know I shined that night so you know the word got around the neighborhood or whatever and it got back to Tip. And then he was like, ‘Yo I give you a shot man. You better not play yourself.” |
Consequence also addressed reports that Kanye West didn’t support the project as much as he should. He said, “You gotta understand, I’m signed to another artist. Do you think Jay-Z gave Kanye as much support on his first album as he probably should have, or as he would have if he was just a CEO? It’s the same thing. I don’t say yes. I don’t say no. At the end of the day, I supported me, that’s why the record came out.” |
The rapper is used to having to grind it out and prove himself. When he first fell in love with rap, it wasn’t until he did his thing in a cipher with Busta Rhymes and Run of Run-DMC, did his older cousin Q-Tip, take notice. Consequence explained, |
