SKILLET TOURS WITH COMATOSE FAMILY
Stage 2 from the inaugural Carolina Rebellion festival Saturday, May 7: Avenged Sevenfold, Cavo, Halestorm, Skillet, Bullet For My Valentine, Seether, Three … |
Skillet kicked off their tour with Flyleaf March 17 in Norfolk, Virginia, but the band had a handful of dates to do press before the next date of March 24 in Nashville, Tennessee. The band is touring in support of their new album, Comatose, which sports two Active Rock radio singles “The Older I Get” and “Whispers In The Dark.” |
Skillet singer John Cooper says that the band has a lot of work to do to get their name and music in front of people on this leg of tour dates. |
“Well, we start a tour with Flyleaf here starting now basically, for about six weeks, fun enough. It’s cool. We played with Flyleaf twice, and gotten to know them as people — not very well — but enough to know we click pretty good. We really have, I think, similar beliefs in what we want to do and what we want our music to speak about in giving hope to people. I think it’s going to be a fantastic tour. That and we have a radio single out right now, doing all the radio appearances we can do, ‘How are you doing? I’m John from Skillet,’ It’s embarrassing, but hopefully they’ll let us play an acoustic song and see that we can actually play our instruments, at least a little bit and do some singing. There’s a lot of people out there who have no idea of who Skillet is. That’s what we’re fighting right now.” |
Skillet is comprised of drummer Lori Peters and guitarist Ben Kasica as well as husband and wife team John (bass, vox) and Korey Cooper (keyboards, guitar). Not only are they married, they tour with their two todlers in tow. Despite the family obligations, the duo says they have the road thing down. |
[John] “We… I have to say if there’s anything I feel we’ve mastered it’s road life. I think that we’re pretty good at that. I don’t think we’ve mastered much else, but I think we have the road life thing pretty down. We have two kids as well and they come on the road with us. I think we’ve learned how to do that, how to be what I hope to be great parents on the road — giving them the time they need, doing preschooling workbooks on the road…” [Korey] “Doing our work, trying to take naps, going to get some sleep.” [John] “It’s really about budgeting your time that’s for sure. Getting time with fans, I think we’ve done a pretty good job of that. Getting along with the band. We’ve got… Our band gets along just about as good as anybody I’ve ever seen. We don’t fight, and we don’t have a lot of those things, a very family atmosphere.” |
Skillet has one day at home before, heading out on the road through September 10. A complete itinerary through the spring and summer time is still being booked and taking shape, but fans can check out skillet.com for all the up-to-date tour information. |
