TYPE O NEGATIVE ON DEBUT AND INDUSTRY
David Draiman, singer of Disturbed, released a new album with his Industrial side project, Device, and they’re aiming for a Top 10 debut on the Billboard 200. |
Type O Negative’s latest album, Dead Again, debuted at Number 27 upon its release last month. It has fallen considerably since then, but it’s an impressive debut from a band that isn’t exactly a household name. |
The band has a rabid fanbase, and Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver said that as much as it was an impressive debut on Billboard, it was even higher on a well known free download site. |
“It debuted on Bittorrent even higher. There is no record industry amymore so that is a hole, by hole I mean H-O-L-E because there is no f–kin’ record industry anymore and in some ways it’s good and in some ways it’s bad. It’s good because most of the people were theives and scum, and it’s bad because a lot of bands will go down the toilet because of it. I feel for the musicians and friends at the record companies that we have made over the years are a few good people that really did support the band a lot. I really hate to see their jobs laid to waste, but sh-t happens. They won’t be crying at our funeral.” |
While Dead Again is the title of the band’s new effort, and reflects their view on the industry, the band’s drummer Johnny Kelley and keyboardist Silver says the one bright spot is their move from Roadrunner to SPV Records. |
[Kelley] “We’re a high priority at SPV, so I think that’s helped.” [Silver] “I agree. I don’t think that changes the music particularly. I think musically we’ve always done whatever, and it didn’t matter what label we did it for. SPV views us as much more of a priority than Roadrunner, where if you ain’t Nickelback, you aint s–t.” |
Type O Negative has a grueling tour schedule with dates in North America and Europe through July 3. This leg of the tour currently wraps up July 3 in Belgrade, Serbia. |
