KURT RUSSELL COULD’VE BEEN A GRINDHOUSE STAR
When Kurt Russell was a young actor in the 70s grinding out Disney movies like Now You See Him Now You Don’t, Charley and The Angel and Super Dad those films’ trailers might’ve been running before a Grindhouse film. |
In fact Kurt says there were several times he was considered to star in a Grindhouse picture. |
“When you’d seen a regular movie like Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid or something that you loved and you’d seen it a couple of times and you knew it really well. That was what you’d tell your parents you were gonna go see for the third time and in fact you were going to the Grindhouse and you were going to see some exploitation crazy picture. So those theaters played all kinds of movies and I saw many of them. As a matter of fact I interviewed for quite a few of those movies so it’s interesting for me to sort of hook up with Quentin on this because we talked about some of the films made at that time, many of which I was going up for.” |
Kurt continued to toil for Disney and instead the Grindhouse roles were offered to another up and coming actor. |
“There was just a group of guys like for instance Don Johnson I know did Macon County Line or Return to Macon County Line. Because of my age I’m sure that’s something I probably was up for at the time that Don did. That was a Grindhouse movie. That was a movie that played around those theaters. That was an example. They weren’t necessarily slasher films all of them. They weren’t necessarily horror films. They were all different kind of shows.” |
Actually Kurt was not the first choice for stuntman Mike. The role was originally offered to Mickey Rourke and Quentin’s Pulp Fiction pal Ving Rhames. |
