ROSE MCGOWAN GETS A LEG UP IN GRINDHOUSE

Rose McGowan stars in Planet Terror, the film Robert Rodriguez contributes to Grindhouse, the 2007 homage to 70s exploitation flicks double feature with Quentin Tarrantino. Rose plays the uber sexy go-go dancer Cherry who has the horrible misfortune of losing one of her legs to a band of flesh eating zombies.

Her partner in crime Freddie Rodriguez has the bright idea of attaching a machine gun to her stump so she can kill off the zombies which explode into oozing puss on impact. Rose says wearing the leg wasn’t as cool but it looked great.

“But I knew it would be so you just suck it up. I didn’t complain about it. I knew signing on. Generally in movies you’re either cold and uncomfortable or hot and comfortable so this one it was really hot and uncomfortable for different reasons so it’s just part of the game. It wasn’t that much of a little trick. It was a very cumbersome, about five pounds in a really heavy gray cast on my right leg to lock it straight. And I had a little ball bearing that my heel would rest on and on the other side was a four-inch high heeled boot. So it wasn’t so much of a little thing but it looked so fantastic. It’s so seamless. I’ve seen it and I completely forgot that it was a gray cast. I would never have noticed.”

Rose got a leg up during her love scene with Freddie which in Grindhouse film tradition gets burned out on the celluloid.

“My contribution, I thought it would be very funny to have once somebody sees it there’s a little leg that goes straight up in the air and it gets a big laugh and I thought that would be very funny.”

Ironically Rose’s next project is playing B-movie actress Susan Cabot famous for playing wasp woman in Roger Corman movies.
