MEKHI PHIFER FLIRTS WITH LOVE AND DEATH

ER star Mekhi Phifer stars in Slow Burn, the mysterious story of an assistant district attorney who murders his character, but the audience is never quite sure what really happens until it is revealed by district attorney Ray Liotta investigating the case.

In the film Mekhi burns up the screen in a steamy love affair with the accused played by Enterprise star Jolene Blalock.

“You know we wanted to keep it steamy but also we wanted to push the story along and stay focused on that. The lovemaking was sort of the undertone. Usually with things like that you do get sort of a closed set or as much as you can have a closed set so it’s not like a lot of grips and electrics standing around looking at you but you just got to be ready to get in there and not be scared.”

Mekhi might not be so scared of death playing a doctor on television but the scene featuring flashbacks of his character being zipped up in a body bag was too disturbing for him to watch.

“It’s always weird when you see yourself in stuff like that even though you know you’re sitting there and you’re watching it so you know that didn’t happen in real life but it’s always kind of weird to see that. I mean you know they zip it up, yell cut, unzip and let ya out.”

During his hiatus from ER, Mekhi is filming This Christmas with Idris Elba and Regina King. Slow Burn is currently playing in theaters.
