OLYMPIA DUKAKIS DRESSES FOR AGE

Olympia Dukakis stars In The Land of Women as Adam Brody’s maternal grandmother. When Adam’s character gets dumped by his famous L.A. girlfriend he moves to the suburbs of Michigan to escape his heartache and help his ailing grandma even though a lot of her symptoms are mostly in her head.

Olympia who is 76 years old had a few tricks up her sleeve to look like a grandmother who feels like she’s over 100.

“The first thing I asked for was a hump. I don’t know how you play 130 but it was just what was written. So they built me a little hump and then I asked for all the sleeves to be a little shorter so the little bony arms would hold. And all the clothes hung so that you felt this woman had slowly, that the juices of life had been squeezed out.”

Olympia was impressed by 28 year old Brody who she describes as an old soul.

“There’s kind of a worldliness in him, even a world weary, there’s a kind of a weight in him that I was surprised to see.”

Also way beyond his years is writer and director Jonathan Kasdan whose love of women began while just a teenager writing an advice column for high school girls. In The Land of Women opens Friday in theaters.
