PAUL RUDD DID NOT DIG CLAMS
Paul Rudd plays a clam digger on the south shore of Long Island in Diggers. Even though his character makes his livelihood from the slimy shellfish, Paul was not a clam fan. |
On the other hand Diggers writer and co-star Ken Marino currently in Reno 911 with Rudd comes from a family of clam diggers so he didn’t mind as much. |
“You know the first step is like clams and then oysters because oysters are a little looser. They’re not as pretty. They’re not as symmetrical or consistent. You open up a clam you know what you’re getting. Oysters can be anywhere; it’s all over the place. Even the name, though oyster. They’re supposed to help with the old, woo hoo, you know what I mean?” |
Unfortunately clams were on the menu during Rudd’s date scene with Six Feet Under star Lauren Ambrose where he describes how to prepare the perfect clam the Rolling Stones way. Paul says other bands popped into his mind while shooting that scene. |
“You know what’s even worse is that I actually started improvising on that scene and I said this is the Martin Gore and this is the Dave Gon and I called this one the Depeche Mode but Ken was like, ‘that’s way off, don’t do that.’ That’s not the right time period. This is the La Mall and this is the Nick Beggs. I know the guitar player from Kashagoogoo, that sucks. You know what, that’s a little crazy. That’s terrible that I know that.” |
Paul didn’t eat one single clam during that scene. Instead he had a clam substitute made of yogurt and strawberry jam to look like hot sauce. Diggers opens Friday in theaters. |
