MOLLY SHANNON GOES TO THE DOGS
Comedian Molly Shannon tones down her broad comedy and gets to show off her serious acting chops in the dramedy Year of The Dog. Molly stars as Peggy Spade, a dog lover who is very content with her life as a secretary going home to her dog Pencil every night until her beloved Beagle dies. |
Molly explains the run of the mill life that her character is stuck in. |
“Peggy Spade is a woman who leads a very simple life. She loves her dog. She is not in a relationship. She has a 9-5 job, 9-6 and she drives a practical car and lives in a nice home that maybe she bought. And she really is peaceful with where she is.” |
Molly talks about acting opposite her canine co-stars. |
“Working with dogs is crazy and fun. It’s also kind of relaxing because there’s all these animal trainers around and so you’re not thinking that much about yourself because they’re doing crazy things. Like they’re calling the dogs, they blow whistles and they’re talking over you during the scene and so it kind of feels like an insane asylum. You just hear them, ‘Keesha!’ while you’re trying to act and then you go and reloop your lines later. So to me I love watching those dog trainers. That’s a whole movie in itself.” |
A dog lover herself Molly had a German Shephard named Hannibal who sang opera. Year of The Dog is currently playing in theaters. |
