FATHER AND SON SMITH PLAY FATHER AND SON
Will Smith and his son Jaden are naturals together at playing father and son in The Pursuit of Happyness. |
Eight year old Jaden Smith makes his major acting debut in The Pursuit of Happyness playing what he knows best, his daddy Will’s son. However Will did say Jaden has got good acting instincts for being truthful when he refused to lie to his mother Jada about her impending surprise birthday party. |
Will says performing with his son was as natural as being his father. |
“Having my son and being able to do the sons and be able to lay in a subway bathroom with my real son just added to the ability to be able to transform and to become Chris Gardner for those moments. The desire to be a good father is innate and there’s not a lot of movies that depict that relationship because man we have to pretend like we’re not that emotional about it.” |
Acting is certainly in the genes for Jaden who portrays Christopher Gardner in the film. Jaden says he didn’t love the fact that his dad always stayed in character. |
Jaden: “You know what wasn’t fun was that he was always in character. Will: You see when you get old your brain doesn’t work as well so you kind of got to stay focused and stay in character whereas you can go and you can have a good time between takes but it was harder for me. Jaden: But we’d be in the trailer and I’d be like, ‘Dad can I have an orange juice,’ and he’d be like, ‘sorry Christopher we can’t afford an orange juice.” |
Out of the mouths of babes! Despite being annoyed with his father practicing method acting, Jaden says this was his dream role come true. |
