1970s Teen Idol David Cassidy announced an auction of some of his most prized possessions and memorabilia at the Hard Rock Café in New York City on Tuesday (November 28). The auction put together by Julien’s featured a hand crafted electric guitar, his parrot and alligator overalls, an acoustic guitar, a Partridge Family lunchbox and thermos, and other items. The auction is already in progress and fans of the pop icon can bid at juliensauctions.com and the bidding is open through December 16, where it’ll officially close at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. |
Cassidy told us about the auction. |
“For me, it lives here, it lives here in my heart. I have photographs of all of it. I don’t play those guitars anymore, and I don’t wear those jumpsuits anymore. So to the millions of people who watched me and came to my concerts and bought the albums and bought the singles and had posters of me all over the world. I thought it would be a good time for me to unload a significant storage bill — I’m kidding. I think that it’s a good thing to be able to give back. For me to give to charity for children and to support the things I care about and I love, for people who I had a significant impact on their life it’s a great thing to give back.” |
Cassidy has chosen to give some of the proceeds to his passion – thoroughbred horses. Money will be used to fund organizations that help injured racehorses live past their racing days. |
“I became a breeder in the mid ’70s and I’ve been in thoroughbred racing since then. I’m an active part in New York. I breed my horses in New York and race in New York for the most part. I’m very concerned about… Fortunately, we passed a bill that there’s not going to be any longer and slaughter of horses in America, the United States, and that’s a big thing. As I guy who breeds and races horses and cares about them, I think their retirement is necessary to find a good home for them. I’m going to find a way to contribute to that as well.” |
Cassidy is most famous for his song “I Think I Love You,” and his 1972 album, Cherish, has been platinum certified for sales of one million according to the Recoding Industry Association of America. In fact, fans can actually bid on the award presented to David, which is up for sale at the Julien’s Auction site. |
