DREW BARRYMORE LESS A SINGER, MORE AN ACTOR
Drew Barrymore might be thought of as a music enthusiast. After all she dated a musician and is known to be a fan of Madonna and Prince. In Music & Lyrics she may be playing a songwriter but the truth is Drew doesn’t like to sing a note. |
During the musical duets with Hugh Grant who plays a former 80s pop star, Drew had to be encouraged to sing. |
“Scared, scared to do because I’ve always been told to please stop singing so to be told to start singing was an oxymoron for the first time in my life. But I totally had fun with it and I just went with it. The guy who produced it Adam Schlesinger really made me feel confident and Bob Shaeffer they were all in there going, ‘just go for it.’ Have fun with it.” |
Singing is not her natural form of expression but the actor in her was able to pull it off in the end. |
“They say, ‘express yourself.’ I can’t. I don’t express myself this way, I never have. But somehow at a certain point you just give over and go, ‘oh screw it.’ I’m just gonna go for it and it ends up working and it’s fun and you end up having a good time with it and that shines through. I’m not a good singer by a long shot but I certainly did up ending having a lot of fun with it.” |
While making Music & Lyrics Drew listened to all kinds of music and was even inspired to write a song when listening to Jenny Lewis’ CD Rabbit Fur Coat. |
