ROBERT DENIRO DIRECTS THE GOOD SHEPHERD
After seven years, Robert DeNiro finally directs The Good Shepherd, the film about the beginning of the CIA. |
It had been six years between directing jobs and almost seven years for Robert DeNiro to bring The Good Shepherd to the screen. An ambitious story of the beginnings of the CIA, it spans the years 1925 through 1961. |
DeNiro describes his directing style with his actors Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie. |
“Give them as much free range as they need and then they come in and bring that, or that; that looks good to me. I’ll try that, sure. I try as hard as we can to get things that are slightly more interesting or more original and not so we haven’t seen before. Whatever that may be with everything. That’s the aim, you don’t always succeed but that was my aim. I’m still amazed that I got it done today because it was just daunting when you think about it.” |
DeNiro has a small role in the film as General Bill Sullivan who shows up from time to time to give Damon his next assignment. |
“It’s hard to direct yourself. I’m not crazy about it. If I have to I will. It’s more fun doing one or the other.” |
DeNiro says he’s not going to be directing many more movies but would like to continue the story of The Good Shepherd picking up where it leaves off in 1961 to the fall of the Berlin Wall. |
