TRICK TRICK FINALIZING DEAL TO JOIN G UNIT
Eminem affiliate Trick Trick is finalizing deal to join roster of 50 Cent’s G Unit Records. |
Detroit-based rapper Trick Trick is currently finalizing a deal to join the roster of 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records. The rapper told a local Detroit paper, “Out of 50 Cent’s own mouth he told me: ‘Trick, you’re an artist that people gonna listen to because they know that what you say is real. All over the country, they respect you in the streets. So you need to be a priority at a label to be pushed right to sell 4 and 5 million records.’ So to have a person like 50 Cent who did, what, 11 million, 15 million records, tell me eye to eye something like that, it helped me to know that I will be important instead of just another notch in the belt for a record label. Plus G-Unit Records is like a family. It’s not just a record label.” |
The deal isn’t finalized but Trick Trick has been busy recording a new album which he hopes to release in July. So far the album features guest appearances by Eminem, Tony Yayo, Young Buck, Ice Cube, WC, Young Jeezy, Kid Rock, and production by Dr. Dre. |
“I just would always keep up with the times. If a certain style of music was poppin’ at that time then I would record a song in that style of music and because I’m a producer also I was able to adopt to the times, you know what I’m sayin’? A playa, you know? So when dance music popped off real big. When Luke Skywalker, Poison Clan, 2 Live Crew, MC A.D.E., and cats like that had big records that was going on everywhere and it was the booty shake season. Like ’95 when I got out the penitentiary, I was like I got to make a song like that in order to get in where I fit in. And I did and everytime I would make a hit record and in would be for my market and my region. You know what I’m sayin’, it worked. It paid the bills. So just to be able to keep up with the times, it was kinda hard but it was cool.” |
Trick Trick’s major label debut, The People Vs. Trick Trick, was released on Universal Motown Records last year and sold a disappointing 56,000 copies. That was a significant drop off from the success the rapper enjoyed as a indie artist on the Detroit music scene for the past twelve years. |
