THE GOLDEN GIRLS CELEBRATE SEVEN YEARS ON DVD
The Golden Girls had a golden seven year run on television from 1985 to 1992 chronicling the adventures of four divorced older women sharing a home together. Each had their own unique personality. Bea Arthur was Dorothy, always trying to find love for herself and handle her mother at the same time played by Estelle Getty. Betty White played Rose, the lovable ditz and Rue McClanahan was Blanche, the saucy Southerner with a healthy sexual appetite. |
Bea Arthur recalls her favorite episode on the DVD which features the complete and final season of the long running sitcom. |
“ne of my favorite episodes was when Estelle entered the two of us in a mother daughter beauty contest at Shady Pines. For the talent section we did I Got You Babe dressed as Sonny and Cher.” |
Bea and Betty recall the final episode of the series and how difficult it was to say goodbye to each other. |
[etty]“I think any show that’ as successful as Golden Girls is a once and a lifetime thing. If you don’ feel proud of a being in a show that has that kind of track record, then shame on you. That’ a privilege.” [Bea] “I thought we’d done seven great years. We can not do anything better and it’s time to stop. We were so close all four of us. It was, ‘My God I’m leaving my home. I’m leaving.’” |
The idea for The Golden Girls was inspired by NBC executive Brandon Tartikoff after a visit to his elderly aunt and her best friend. Brandon noted that despite their constant bickering they were still the best of friends and loved each other which he thought would make a great story. The rest went down in television history. |
