ALICIA KEYS KEYED INTO FEMALE ASSASSIN FOR SMOKIN’ ACES
Alicia Keys explored her own emotions with an acting coach to play a female assassin in Smokin’ Aces. |
For her debut acting role in Smokin’ Aces Alicia Keys had to key into her own emotional pool to portray the character of female assassin Georgia Sykes. |
Alicia worked closely with an acting coach who gave her the tools to access her own feelings of anger and desperation that she could then bring to the role. |
“It was really therapeutic for me as I was working with my coach. Without even going through the scene we’d just have long conversations about me and my life and what angered me or what gave me this feeling of desperation. I had to physically and verbally express that to her which is hard to do. And hard to come to terms with on your own but I knew if I could do it in that little room then I could definitely do it on screen. And so she’s a lot more like me than you would think.” |
Alicia talks about what characteristics Georgia Sykes has that she admired. |
“Her intelligence, her powerfulness. She doesn’t shrink from danger. She’s dark but she’s intelligent. She’s smart. She’s driven. Yeah, she’s pretty bad.” |
Director Joe Carnahan gave the songstress a book of CDs to also help her along in getting to know her character. |
