SABBATH WORTHY OF HALL BUT NOT DONE YET
Black Sabbath is one of the bands being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, March 13, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The band will be ushered into the hall by Metallica, and are largely considered the fathers of hard roock and heavy metal. |
While the band is happy to be inducted to the hall, they’re taking the high road. Some bands who haven’t gotten in have taken previous years’ snubs personally, such as the Sex Pistols who issued an anti-Hall of Fame statement saying they’re not coming. Iommi said that like some recent inductees, Sabbath is very much a working band. |
“I think it’s very much a living thing, you know? We can just go out and play when we wanna, which is really great.. I love to go out and play with the original Sabbath. It’s great fun, it’s a great vibe and a great band. Hopefully there will be other stuff to do. I’d love to do an album at some point. We all would.” |
Iommi added that while Black Sabbath is interested in making an album of all new material, the commitment and focus need to be there. |
“It’s really… The thing is you’ve got to have the time to do it. You have to put aside a lot of time, certainly within the Sabbath fold, but it takes time. It’s just the way it’s been. It takes longer than most. Of course, everybody needs to be focused fully on it. You can’t be doing a TV show here or doing that one in Japan. It needs to be all in once place.” |
Joining Sabbath for the induction into the hall are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blondie, Sex Pistols and Herb Alpert among others. The original members of Black Sabbath are Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. Other vocalist who have fronted the band include Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio among others. |
