2006 IN REVIEW BEST NEW ARTIST – WOLFMOTHER
Wolfmother played Lollapalooza, paid tribute to Led Zeppellin at the U.K. music Hall Of Fame, and took the U.S. by storm. |
Wolfmother’s self titled debut album featured several standout tracks. The album spawned “Woman,” “Joker & The Thief,” and “Dimension” among others. The band was buzzed about in late 2005, and they played Lollapalooza, a tribute to Led Zeppelin as part of the U.K. Music Hall of Fame, and they even managed to slip their music into car commercials. |
The Australian power trio said that their beginnings were very humble. |
“I wrote some songs on an acoustic, like seven songs, and a friend offered me a show to support his band and so I asked Chris and Myles if they’d like to learn these songs and do the gig. That was the first time we played actual songs, got on stage and seeing if people would clap or sort of throw crap at us. It went really well, and we decided to keep going and we met up again and that’s when Wolfmother started. The next show we called ourselves Wolfmother. That was like two and a half years ago, probably two hundred, three hundred shows later. We’ve played all the festivals in the world. All kinds of stuff has happened. It’s been incredible It’s been amazing.” |
Wolfmother is poised to continue its influence in 2007. The band’s “Woman” is up for the Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy against songs by Nine Inch Nails, Buckcherry, System Of A Down, and Tool. Wolfmother will start off the New Year at the Southbound festival in Australia on January 6 before playing Japan later in the month. |
