BOOTSTRAP BILL AND DAVY JONES JOIN PIRATES 2

Stellan Skarsgard plays Bootstrap Bill Turner, Will’s long lost father who has submerged from the bottom of the ocean aboard The Flying Dutchman to warn Captain Jack Sparrow that his time is up. Stellan who wears the bottom of the ocean on his face talks about the make-up design.

Bill Nighy last seen in Underworld:Evolution resurfaces as Davy Jones in The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the sea baddie pirating The Flying Dutchman who enslaves all that are on board his ghostly vessel. Bill describes his character’s inner demons.

“Well when I first was contacted I saw sketches of this character in six different stages so I was very much aware of what he would look like. But I thought it would be mostly CGI which was the original idea. But Joe Harlow who designed this and was making it is doing fabulous work and it looks so much better than the CGI. So we decided to continue doing it for real which means four and a half hours in make-up every day.”

There in lies the Dead Man’s Chest which is at the center of the treasure hunt between Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann in an effort to free the sea from evil.rn

“Davy Jones is a deeply damaged isolated individual. He’s famous in mythology for having torn out his own heart in an effort to never feel that way again. He’s wounded so deeply, he’s so heart sick that he determines that rather than live that way he will live a kind of semi-life, kind of half death, half life as long as it means he doesn’t have to feel anything anymore. So he tears out the center of all the feeling, in other words his heart, puts it in a locker and buries it at the bottom of the sea.”
