TRAIN STOPS AT ART GALLERY FOR NEW ALBUM
Train debuted six songs from its February 7 release, For Me, It’s You, at New York City’s Maya Stendhal Gallery in New York City on Tuesday night. The band soundchecked new favorites such as “Get Out,” “I’m Not Waiting In Line,” and the first single, “Cab.” |
The art gallery came courtesy of manager (and Bruce Springsteen manager) Jon Landau, who was able to get the wife of E-Street Band member Danny Federicci to open her gallery to the band. The band’s last release was 2003’s My Private Nation, which followed in the footsteps of the smash, Drops Of Jupiter. Singer Pat Monahan talked about overcoming the pressure. |
“That pressure was enormous for everybody and we denied it and said, ‘no, we just go with the flow,’ but in retrospect you can look back and go, ‘Yeah the pressure was on, and we weren’t comfortable.’ And when you’re comfortable you make your best work, in my opinion. Or at least when you have the the time to make your best work, you can do that. That’s what we gave ourselves this time around. There wasn’t much pressure at all. In fact, when we handed in this record there was some conversation about, ‘We didn’t know if you guys would make another record. We didn’t know what was gonna happen next.’ So they were thrilled to see that, not only did we make another record, but in their opinion we made the best record yet.” |
Songs on For Me, It’s You were written in light of his divorce and one of his close friends comitting suicide. Monahan, flanked by bandmate Jimmy Stafford, talked about writing about these life changing events. |
“I think as a… You know I can’t speak for all writers, but for me personally the further I get away from life events, the better I can write about them. Jimmy was mentioning how many songs we had written, or maybe I did, but there were a lot of songs that didn’t make this record that weren’t supposed to make the record. They were very literal.” |
Train’s For Me, It’s You is set for release February 7, and the band is set for the Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Concert series tonight (February 2) in Detroit, Michigan. |
