Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy are in the running for Oscar for their supporting role performances in Dreamgirls. Jennifer could be well on her way to the award Trifecta having already won a Golden Globe and SAG award for her portrayal of Effie White, the lone Dreamette who got the shaft when their fame was beginning to rise.

Jennifer proved herself as an actress but everyone knew she could sing making it as a finalist on American Idol. The only other challenge was to send home the film’s signature song And I Am Telling You.

“Singing I Am Telling You, that’s the biggest challenge, finding the emotion, where to pull it out of myself and to be able to deliver it. And show you the pain and living Effie’s journey is just challenging.”

This is definitely Eddie Murphy’s year as a possible triple threat. He also won the Golden Globe and SAG award for his portrayal of James “Thunder” Early, the philandering soul singer who gives the Dreamettes their biggest break.

“From messing around with his background singers so much some girls quit and he’s caught in a bind and didn’t have anybody to sing in the background so he needed some background singers real quick and that’s how he meets the Dreamgirls.”

Dreamgirls leads the 79th Annual Academy Awards with eight Oscar nominations except the biggest honor, a best picture nod. Other nominations include achievement in art direction, costume design, sound mixing and for three original songs Listen, Love You I Do, and Patience.
