Houston-based rapper Chamillionaire won a Grammy last weekend in the best rap performance by duo or group category for his hit, “Ridin” featuring Krayzie Bone. The win made him the first rapper from Houston to win a Grammy. Chamillionaire explained that he didn’t realize how big the award was until obscure family members began to page him. He said, |
Chamillionaire will release his sophomore album, Ultimate Victory, in April. The first single, “Not A Criminal,” was produced by Styalz Fuego and features Kelis. The new album will feature production by Three Six Mafia, Rick Rock, Play N Skillz, The Runners, JR Rotem, Kane Beatz, The Beat Bullies, Happy P, Disco D, and Ike Dirty with guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, Pimp C, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Slick Rick, and Devin The Dude. |
“What does this do for the Houston scene? I don’t know. I guess I’m probably the first Houston rapper to get one of these I think. You know Beyonce and Destiny’s Child have been doing it big for Houston but I don’t know it’s pretty big man to win a Grammy. I didn’t realize how big it was you know until everybody started hitting me. I started looking at my two-way messages and hearing my messages. And I started realizing, ‘Wow this is big.’ I didn’t know I that many cousins or brothers. They’re coming out of everywhere now you know” |
