The Wu-Tang Clan is nothing to mess with. The influential east coast rap group is back together and working on their first album in six years, 8 Diagrams, which they plan to release this summer. The Wu-Tang Clan consists of RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. |
The new album will be released through a joint venture between the Wu Music Group and SRC/Universal Records. SRC Records is owned by Steve Rifkind, who signed the Wu-Tang Clan to his Loud Record label in the early ’90s. |
“As it stands now Wu Music Group, you know my label at Universal, is combining with SRC to come together for this Wu Tang album. You know my partner didn’t agree with me on this one, you know what I mean. He felt like, ‘Yo how much money we could make and all this.’ I was like, ‘Yo it takes a lot of money first of all, you know what I mean? Wu Tang, that’s ten n***a, n***a.’ And you know, the cost is you know, you know an easy couple of million dollars off the top, you know what I mean? So you know Steve Rifkind loves Wu Tang and me and him are buddies. And we both felt like we never had closure on it. So for me and him to sit down and talk again and sincerely try to figure out a way to make it happen, I think is more of wiser thing to do in this climate right now.” |
The RZA explained how everything came together. He said, |
The new album will feature previously recorded material from the Ol’ Dirty Bastard plus a tribute song, “Life Changes,” dedicated to the late rapper. |
