WHO WILL BE SHREK ON BROADWAY?
Shrek hopefuls came to audition for an open-call workshop for Shrek, The Musical on Broadway. |
An open-call audition for a workshop for the upcoming Broadway show Shrek, The Musical was held at Chelsea Studios in New York. |
Many hopefuls waited patiently for their chance to sing out for the part of the lovable green ogre named Shrek like Ira Gonzalez, and Casey Jones. |
Ira: “I don’t know if I’m gonna be the next Shrek. I hope to be. It’s a shot in the dark for me. Like I said I’ve been away from this for so long. I hope to be it’s in my blood. I’ve been doing theater for 20 years. Casey: “I do voice-overs. I have a wide variety of accents, imitations and I do voices and Shrek’s on the list. ‘Shut up Donkey that’s all you have to say and bingo and there he is.’ Also I was kind of hoping they were perhaps casting for the Gingerbread Man or something like that, it wouldn’t be horrible.” |
Some of the candidates took time off from their day jobs for a chance to light up Broadway, even former Cleveland Browns football player Bill Duff. |
Bill: “If I get the role I jump off the house and me and my wife hug and move to north Jersey. I mean it’s Shrek. It’s gonna run. I don’t know how long it’s gonna run but as I said if I get the role kudos to me. Ira: My boss gave me the rest of the afternoon off to try. He knows that I sing and act and things like that. He said, ‘you know what take the rest of the day off. If you make it I could say I knew you when.’” |
Shrek The Musical will be helmed by American Beauty award winning director Sam Mendes and directed by Jason Moore who won a Tony for Avenue Q. |
