KEVIN SPACEY PSYCHED ABOUT SUPERMAN
Kevin Spacey is not very popular among Superman fanatics because he plays the evil Lex Luther who is responsible for pummeling the man of steel into the ground and stabbing him with lethal kryptonite in Superman Returns. Kevin says he got a secret enjoyment out of the beating. |
To stay in character between scenes Kevin fashioned a special golf cart he drove around the set to keep him psyched about hating the beloved super hero. |
“I caught him at a moment when he was really feeling quite confident and then I got to beat the crap out of him. Oh he deserved every punch and kick he could get. |
Kevin Spacey being one of the senior players saw the original Richard Donner film in 1978 which starred a then unknown actor named Christopher Reeve.rnrn |
“I had a golf cart supped up and it was called the Super Buster and it had the kryptonite strips along the side like racing stripes. And then I dragged a little Superman doll on a chain behind it until there was nothing but fluff for months with a megaphone yelling, ‘Superman must die, Superman must die,’ everywhere.” |
“I think I was just in junior high school when the first Donner film came out and we all went to see the movie in the movie theater on a Friday night. Those of us who were actors wanted to go see Marlon Brando. But I was also slightly unique in that I’m one of the few people who had seen Christopher Reeve in a play called A Matter of Gravity with Katherine Hepburn which is the play that the producers of Superman saw him in and then decided to screen test him. So I’d actually seen him at work. I know that guy. I think again like then which is sometimes hard for people to remember Christopher Reeve was virtually unknown.”rn |
