SAM RAIMI REVEALS SPIDER-MAN DARK SIDE
Sam Raimi discusses how Peter Parker handles his hero status in Spider-Man 3. |
Spider-Man director Sam Raimi brings the story of Peter Parker full circle in Spider-Man 3 introducing the audience to a cockier and more self-assured superhero than we’ve seen before. |
When a mysterious black goop takes hold of Parker he starts to buy into his own hero status and doesn’t handle it very well at all. Raimi explains. |
“We’re letting Peter come to realize what it means to be a hero and he’s starting to deal with the effects of being a hero. Now he has to absorb all the accolades that come with people liking him. And he’s just a small town kid from Queens and he’s a simple fellow. And he’s never had people cheer his name before and look up to him as someone that they would admire. And it has an affect on him, an unexpected affect. It stirs his prideful self. And that is a window, the beginning of a movement to his dark side in this picture.” |
There is plenty of movement in Spider-Man 3 when Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker goes to the dark side. He struts his stuff John Travolta style down the streets of New York and breaks out in his disco finest to win back Mary Jane Watson. Spider-Man 3 opens Friday in theaters. |
