GARRY MARSHALL LOVES LOHAN AND HIS LEADING LADIES
Director Garry Marshall discusses how he enjoyed working with his female cast in Georgia Rule, even Lindsay Lohan. |
Georgia Rule director Garry Marshall admits he likes women so the idea of three generations of women coming together, mixing comedy with drama was very appealing to him. |
Garry selected his leading ladies based on their ability to deliver strong emotional content, namely Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman. But Garry wasn’t put off by Lindsay Lohan’s tendency to burn the midnight oil. He knew she was the only actress who could play the part of Huffman’s rebellious teenager. |
“The only person who could’ve played the young girl I felt was Lindsay Lohan because it really takes a lot of emotion and crying, there’s freshness and comedic. Teenagers do comedic things. They change on the dime. They’re mad at everybody. And so to be a fresh mouth and then to be extremely vulnerable, Lindsay is one of the best at this and never really played it much despite her nightclub life in some places she’s a fine actress.” |
Garry says the three women bonded together despite countless disruptions on the set. |
“They worked together and I say a lot of times it was adversity because the paparazzi were around outside and it was very, very hot. We were in the woods half the time. There were no beautiful facilities and I think you bond together when you’re fighting the elements. They’re also very good actresses and once that Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman saw that Lindsay—what they read in the paper, they read a paper, but despite all this you can stand there and stand toe to toe with them and emotionally do the scenes. That was great.” |
Garry was equally impressed with his male stars, Dermot Mulroney and newcomer Garrett Hedlund playing the local Mormon hottie confused about his feelings for the wild child Lindsay and the girl he is promised to marry. |
