DONKEY AND PUSS SWITCH BODIES

In Shrek The Third a spell is cast on Donkey and Puss In Boots by Merlin the magician.

In Shrek The Third Merlin the magician played by Eric Idle casts a spell turning Donkey into Puss in Boots and Puss into Donkey to thwart their efforts of finding the rightful heir Artie to take over the throne of Far, Far Away.

Antonio Banderas reprises his role as the cunning little cat and talks about switching bodies with Donkey.

“It’s always a very competitive relationship in a way for the friendship of Shrek but at the same time because they are both picky with each other which is good it creates a tremendous amount of comedy. And this time what happens is I have to jump into his body and he jumps into my body which I don’t like. I like the body of my cat very much.”

Shrek fans love Puss in Boots and Donkey so much that Antonio and Eddie Murphy are becoming more popular for their animated characters than their dramatic work.

“Every woman since I’ve done this character they go, ‘I love your cat.’ They don’t say, ‘I love Zorro’ anymore. I always said that I really think that if I were to drop dead they’d put a picture of that donkey in the paper and say Eddie Murphy passed away today and show that. They want that to be me, the donkey. They want that to be me.”

Eddie and Antonio will have to put up with the adoration for at least one more Shrek as four has already been announced for 2010.
