Grammy nominated rapper Lupe Fiasco is currently working on a new album, The Cool, which he plans to release on Halloween, October 31st.He’s hoping to get the members of Pink Floyd together to appear on a song from the forthcoming album. |
Fiasco has also been busy this spring dealing with the trial of his business partner, Charles “Chili” Patton, who co-own the rapper’s 1st and 15th label. Patton and his wife, Inita, are facing drug conspiracy charges for allegedly running a drug ring that supplied more than 900 grams of heroin to buyers. |
“So it’s like for me to have accomplished it is dope. For people to recognize like, ‘Yo he pushed something.’ To me I don’t think it’s that new. You know I don’t think anything is new, it’s just the way you do it. You know for it to be received like he’s creating a new path and a new lane, you know that’s dope. That’s what people want, you know what I’m sayin’? That’s what artist want, of any caliber want. They want to be looked at like he’s the next such and such. Yo he’s the new him.” |
The couple was arrested in 2003 after a police raid of their home and a storage facility. Authorities found the key to the storage facility at the Patton’s home and a subsequent search of the facility turned up six kilograms of heroin. According to Inita, she allowed a friend to store furniture at the facility and was unaware there were drugs there. If the Pattons are found guilty they could receive anywhere from 15 to 60 years behind bars. |
In the meantime, Fiasco continues to record and work on other projects. He shared his thoughts on the success of his heavily bootlegged 2006 debut album, Food & Liquor. The rapper said, |
