AWAY FROM HER DIRECTOR RAISES MONEY FOR ALZHEIMERS
The film Away From Her is being screened in Canada to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease. |
Canadian actress Sarah Polley is receiving rave notices for Away From Her, the tender love story starring Julie Christie as an Alzheimer’s victim and the dire consequences her disease has on her long term marriage. |
Sarah says the film has been used as a fund raiser for Alzheimers. |
“It’s been great actually and they’re really embraced the film and have been using it. Alzheimer’s Association in Canada has been using it as a fund raiser so that’s been great. They’ve been having screenings of the film all over Canada and using it to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease.” |
Based on the short story The Bear Came Over The Mountain by Alice Munro, Sarah thought it was very important to receive the author’s blessing before she began the film. |
“I knew from what I had read about Alice Munroe that she was not going to be really hands-on in the process and probably not to be but I was really desperate for her to read the script before we went into production so the most contact I had with her was actually a voicemail she left me just saying that she was moved by the script and that we had her blessing too to make the film.” |
Sarah would like to continue acting and directing equally. Coming up she’ll play Nabby Adams, John Adams’ daughter in the HBO miniseries starring Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti. |
