WILLIAM FRIEDKIN TURNS HEADS IN BUG
William Friedkin makes a horror movie that is also a love story and a comedy. |
The master of horror director William Friedkin takes the off Broadway play Bug to the screen. Intrigued by what he saw on stage, Friedkin wanted to tell the story to a much wider audience about mismatched lovers who find commonality when they fear bugs have infested their bodies. |
Friedkin says he wanted to make the film because of the story line. |
“It’s about paranoia and it doesn’t provide any easy answers to questions. It raises questions and provides very few answers. It’s much more than a slice of life. I found that I didn’t know where this was going. I had no idea what the next scene would be, what the next movement would be. And that always grabs me no matter what.” |
The director of The Exorcist says Bug is not only a horror story, it encompasses several film genres. |
“It should be kind of a wild ride. It’s unexpected. You have to pay attention. You can’t just lay back and expect the movie to just come at you. You have to get involved in it. But I think if they do it is both a comedy, it’s savagely violent I have to say and very sexy.” |
Friedkin is a romantic at heart. He is currently developing a film about the love affair between Coco Chanel, the creator of Chanel No. 5 and Igor Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring composer. |
