Maroon 5’s new album It Won’t Be Soon Before Long has debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 album charts. According to Billboard pre-cursor publication, Hits, the album sold just over 425,000 copies to take the top spot, while Linkin Park’s Minutes To Midnight dropped to Number Two with sales of just over 190,000. |
The band recorded the album in Houdini’s Mansion, and guitarist James Valentine and singer Adam Levine talked about the experience. |
[Valentine] “Yeah, that was amazing. We got done touring and we thought, you know, all moving in together was… We actually all didn’t move there. I think me and Jesse, the keyboard player, we were the only ones who lived there full time. But it was great to have…We had all of our gear set up. We were set up to record at any time day or night and so it was a real laid back, sort of, environment. So, that’s where all the songs got written.” |
The duo insist that the mansion was haunted and Adam says he wouldn’t even stay there. |
[Levine] “I refused to live there because it was haunted.” [Valentine] “It was haunted.” [Levine] “It was creepy, man. I walked in there…” [Valentine] “I did see some stuff and actually I don’t, even when I tell this story, I don’t know really what to think about it, but I saw a ghost. I saw someone walking up the stairs to the third floor, and I was so certain that I saw someone that I actually called out to them and then went up and there was nobody else in the house except for me and my girlfriend at the time. They felt like they were benevolent spirits so we didn’t feel threatened or anything.” [Levine] “I felt they were malicious, evil, creatures. They were going to suck my soul out of my body so I couldn’t stay at that house.” |
It Won’t Be Soon Before Long is the band’s first Number One debut, and it’s their sophomore effort following up Songs About Jane. Maroon’s first single from the album is “Makes Me Wonder,” and both the song and the album can be found at iTunes or any other legal download site. |
