JON HEDER LEARNS LIFE LESSONS AS SURFING CHICKEN

Jon Heder voices a surfing chicken in Surfs Up.

Jon Heder has come off the ice in Blades of Glory to catch a wave in Surfs Up as Wisconsin native, Chicken Joe who learned to surf on the Great Lakes.

On the way to Pen Gu Island and the 10th Annual Big Z Memorial Surf-Off he befriends penguin Cody Maverick with dreams of winning the title. Jon says Chicken Joe is not as bird brained as some people may think.

“Yeah there’s more than meets the eye to Chicken Joe. I think he’s got his act together. He knows who he is and he’s completely comfortable. I guess you can say he’s clueless but that also infers that he learns something along the way and actually he kind of gets it all. He’s there to have fun and he doesn’t have to learn any of those lessons. He actually teaches the people around him that kind of lesson especially Cody. He’s a good example to Cody. So he’s a smart chicken.”

Jon says there is an important lesson that Surfs Up relates when it comes to winning.

“I think definitely one of the things you take home after watching the movie which is probably the biggest kind of life lesson, once again the importance of friendship and family. And especially with sports and competition you know its fun to compete. It’s fun to play in sports but winning isn’t everything.”

Surfs Up also features Zooey Deschanel as the beautiful penguin lifeguard on Pen Gu Island and James Woods as a greedy otter named Reggie who has his sights set on surfing champion Cody Maverick voiced by Shia LaBeouf set to star in the next Indiana Jones.
