HOSTEL: PART II NOT TORTURED BY CONTROVERSY
Hostel writer and director Eli Roth was unfazed by the inevitable controversy surrounding the sequel. |
When Hostel writer director Eli Roth set out to make the sequel Hostel: Part II he couldn’t be concerned about the ultimate controversy or the backlash from critics swirling around the film because women were being tortured. |
Eli says he only had one thing on his mind, pleasing the fans. |
“You know you can’t worry about that. I’m making movies for fans and they’re people…look it’s not Happy Feet 2, its Hostel: Part II and people are warned about what this movie is. This is the scariest roller coaster in the park. It’s a great date movie. I didn’t want to make a movie that is mean spirited or sadistic. I know it’s difficult to watch those scenes with girls and I shot them in a way that are scary but still fun and you want to know what happens next. That’s how I shot it so I can’t worry about it. There are already critics who have stolen copies, they’re already trying to take me down but I’m telling you the fans that have seen it are calling and saying it’s so much better than the first one and people are loving it, especially girls are loving it and everybody loves the ending of the film. So I’m making movies for fans. I can’t worry about those people.” |
The fans didn’t necessarily come out in droves to see Roth’s latest torture installment which only grossed $9 million it’s opening weekend as compared to last year when it opened with $20 million beating The Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong. |
