JOHN GOODMAN IS NO DO-GOODER

John Goodman plays an evil congressman in Evan Almighty.

John Goodman stars in Evan Almighty as Congressman Long who finds the newest addition to his staff is former newscaster Evan Baxter played by Steve Carell.

John describes the back story of his character who is not averse to making a dollar or two.

“I wanted to wear like a cowboy hat and a string tie but I think they had other ideas. It just probably started out as a do-gooder but wound up corrupt and morally bankrupt and evil. He’s one of those do what it takes guys, alpha dog personality. My way or the highway.”

John describes his relationship with Baxter as mostly taking and not giving.

“Congressman Long wants a stooge in Evan. He sees this young kid that’s full of himself. I think he measures him up pretty quickly and I think he measures him correctly in the beginning. Evan at the beginning of the film he is a get along guy and whatever is gonna help me. He’s very ambitious and Long sees this and says, ‘well I got him in my pocket right now.’ And things turn around.”

John will move from an ark to a boat in his next film Drunkboat costarring John Malkovich.
