WHITE STRIPES DEBUT AT NUMBER 2
The White Stripes latest album, Icky Thump, will debut at Number Two on the Billboard 200 album chart, and Jack White says organic music wins out. |
White Stripes new album Icky Thump has debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200 charts, and according to Hits Magazine, the album has sold just over 212,000 copies. The Stripes finished second only to Bon Jovi and the debut of their new effort. The band consists of Jack and Meg White, and the Detroit duo hasn’t deviated from the formula that has brought them success. |
One trademark for the band is their organic, stripped down way of recording, and in an interview a while back we asked White if he feels the White Stripes is carrying the flag for organic rock. |
“Very much so. I don’t like the age of recording nowadays. I think it’s become very processed and very overthought. People have put too much money and too much thought into what’s happening. That’s appealing to know that it can be done. Even if it’s not a great record, something can be done in that realm in that sort of direction.” |
In that same interview, White said that he has a distaste for the way most records are made these days. |
“I think that one of the points of the band was to show people that it doesn’t take much to do what people want. Storytelling, melody, and rhythm, those are the three components people want. We’re stripping back to the bare essentials, those three components.” |
The White Stripes are currently booked for a tour in Canada, and return to the states July 22. |
