ACTORS NEARLY STARVE FOR RESCUE DAWN
Losing weight is never easy but where there’s a will there’s a ‘weigh’, and some of today’s hottest actors have done it for the sake of their characters. Christian Bale got down to a skeletal size zero for The Machinist and he’s done it again playing a prisoner of war for Rescue Dawn. |
The interesting thing is since it’s much easier to put the weight back on, the film was shot starting with the end where Bale is emaciated to the beginning where he is healthy and crashes his plane into the jungle. |
“That’s actually the part that’s less healthy, losing the weight is not. You can do yourself real damage. It’s not something that I think is a great laugh to kind of put my body in jeopardy. But I’m absolutely fine. Even though I actually didn’t have anybody monitoring me during it, I had blood tests done afterwards; I did it all just fine so I’m in good shape as far as I know.” |
Bale’s fellow comrades Jeremy Davies and Steve Zahn got skinny down to their bones as well. Steve shares how he lost the weight for the role. |
“I ate all day but I ate just eat raw vegetables, fruit and nuts and I’d have fish at night. On top of that I ran at least five miles a day, sometimes twice a day. That I did consistently and with the diet in a matter of four months I lost 40 pounds and never cheating. I had one meal a day, one meal a week that I would look forward to but I found when I ate that well that I couldn’t cheat with deep fried stuff or I’d get sick so I’d just eat a steak or something.” |
In the film the prisoners discuss what would be in their fantasy fridge because they are so hungry. Steve says he’d have to have turkey, potatoes and beer. His next project is Comanche Moon, the prequel to Lonesome Dove due out this fall.rn |
