AKON USES LIVE EARTH AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Akon gets the facts while helping to spread the word….. |
Alicia Keys, Kanye West, John Legend, the Police, Bon Jovi, John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Akon were some of the artists who performed at Giant Stadium on Saturday, July 7th, as part of Al Gore’s global Live Earth concert. The 24-hour global concert series was geared towards raising awareness about the climate change and it was watched by an estimated two billion viewers around the world. The event also included performances in several cities around the world including Rio De Janeiro, London, Sydney, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Hamburg. |
While the event was meant to educate viewers, surprisingly it also allowed the artists to catch up on the issues. Akon explained, |
“Actually I just realized today what the meaning of green was. You know when I first came I was kind of inquisitive about it. You know I wanted to be more educated about it to understand what the whole global warming thing was. So as we doing the day, that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to be a part of it, so I can know more about it.” |
The Sengalese singer also shared that the environmental issues hasn’t become a priority in Africa yet. He said, |
“Well the environmental thing is kind of…It’s a different situation in Africa because in Africa we don’t have all the latest technologies like they have here in U.S. and Europe. So the problem there is not as much as it would be here, you know what I mean? So there it’s not really too much of a focus. It’s more just trying to clear the poverty side first. But another forty, fifty years, they’ll probably have the same problem.” |
