JAVIER BARDEM MADE FAT BY MILOS FORMAN
Javier Bardem gained weight shooting Goya’s Ghosts because of director’s lunches. |
In Goya’s Ghosts Javier Bardem plays a priest during the Spanish Inquisition who’s job is to enforce the teachings of Jesus. If anyone was caught during that time going against Christian practices you were put to the Question and tortured for your sins. |
When Natalie Portman, the daughter of a wealthy merchant is spotted in a public tavern refusing to eat pork she is imprisoned. In a scene where Javier pays a visit to her family they ridicule his beliefs and tie him up to a chandelier. |
“That was fun actually because I was so fat that I thought everything was going to fall apart. But it didn’t so I felt thin. It was easy. They just pulled me there and hung me there. It was nice. It was fun.” |
Ironically pork became Javier’s downfall which director Milos Forman served during lunch breaks. |
“Yes, because if you work with Milos you have to put weight on for any role because you go to eat with him like roasting pigs and then you gain weight. I start thin and I finished the movie very fat. And they think I did it on purpose because I’m some kind of Robert DeNiro.” |
Goya’s Ghosts opens Friday in theaters. |
