We caught up with vocalist David Gahan, who is set to release his second solo album at the end of October, to get his thoughts on Depeche Mode’s entire catalog being remastered and reissued on Rhino Records. |
“It’s something we started years and years ago, like twenty years ago. It’s kind of interesting because you get to give your music that you’ve finished to somebody else to mess around with and put their own input into it. Yeah, it’s something we’ve always done. It’s become a part of what we do.” |
On ‘Ultra’, Depeche Mode’s first album in 14 years without Alan Wilder, the core trio mark a new beginning with 11 lean and polished songs that spawned the hit singles ‘Barrel of a Gun’ and ‘It’s No Good.’ The group’s follow-up, ‘Exciter’, was released four years later in 2001 and refined Depeche Mode’s stunning mix of anthemic hooks, delicate arrangements and passionate songwriting. Hailed by fans as one of the band’s best albums since the classic ‘Violator,’ ‘Exciter’ delivered several strong singles including ‘Dream On,’ ‘I Feel Loved’ and ‘Freelove.’ The deluxe versions of ‘Ultra’ and ‘Exciter’ will now be available October 2nd. David Gahan will be releasing ‘Hourglass’ in October as well and it’s Gahan’s follow up solo album to his 2003 album ‘Paper Monsters’ which spawned sold out solo tours of the U.S. and Europe as captured on the 2004 Live DVD release ‘Live Monsters.’ |
