FRED SAVAGE, A WONDER AT DIRECTING KIDS
Fred Savage knows what it’s like to be a kid star, so directing them is fun for him in Daddy Day Camp. |
Wonder Years star Fred Savage is all grown up and behind the camera directing Daddy Day Camp, the sequel to Daddy Day Care featuring a rambunctious group of campers who wreak havoc at Camp Driftwood. |
Fred who began his career at the same age as most of the 10 year-old actors in the film says it was a breeze working with them. |
“I really love working with young actors. I love it. They’re so inventive and fearless and they’re up for anything. They’ll try anything once and they’ll never give you the same thing twice. They’re just endlessly creative and full of energy. It makes me very excited so I just love working with young actors. It doesn’t scare me a bit.” |
Despite the mayhem caused by the kids, Fred says the heart of the story is the relationship between fathers and sons. |
“At the center of the script is really a father and son relationship story both with Charlie who’s Cuba’s character and his son and with Charlie and his father. You know I think that’s kind of at the core of it. There’s a lot of fun and a lot of hijinx but it’s really about fathers trying to bridge the gap with their son.” |
Joining the kids in Daddy Day Camp are the adult stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Paul Rae, opening Friday August 10th in theaters. |
