ON STRENGTH OF HIT SINGLE HEY THERE DELILAH, PLAIN WHITE Ts
Plain White T’s have been certified Gold and the band talks about their hit single, ‘Hey There Delilah’ |
It was announced that the Plain White T’s new album ‘Every Second Counts’ has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales in excess of 500,000 units and it was the bands third single from the album, ‘Hey There Delilah’ that became the band’s first real hit in the United States. ‘Hey There Delilah’ has reached the top five of the Hot 100 at #2 and it has also been the number one downloaded song on the iTunes Store since July 3, 2007. ‘Hey There Delilah’ was released on the bands EP over a year ago, and after the song’s initial release it was included on ‘Every Second Counts’ and continues to dominate as a top 10 hit at Alternative, Top 40, Hot AC and AAA radio. It is currently #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. |
We caught up with lead vocalist of Plain White T’s, Tom Higginson, recently to discuss their hit song ‘Hey There Delilah’ and picking out their favorite twelve songs for ‘Every Second Counts.’ |
“Our last record was ‘All That You Needed’ and our new record is ‘Every Second Counts’ and in between that we put out a little EP called the ‘Hey There Delilah EP’ and a few of the songs off ‘Every Second Counts’ were written when we did the EP, but I think we were just trying to take some of the songs we really liked that I had written but probably wouldn’t be as good as some other ones for the actual record. It just wouldn’t fit. Yeah, it wouldn’t fit in with the direction we were going and that’s what we recorded for the ‘Hey There Delilah EP.’ So then on the new record we had a lot of songs to choose from so we were able to pick our favorite twelve and put them on the record.” |
The Plain White T’s are currently touring in support of ‘Every Second Counts’ and then band has U.S. dates booked for July and August. The band will then continue on for their second tour of the UK and will return for a fall U.S. tour with Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes starting in October. |
