JAMES MCAVOY NO MATCH FOR CRICKET
Scottish actor James McAvoy couldn’t pick up the British sport in Becoming Jane. |
Cricket matches are very big in England but the sport is not practiced very much in Scotland where Becoming Jane star James McAvoy is from. |
So when it came time to play a match with the lads on the set of the film shot in Ireland, James was at a loss. |
“Oh, no, no, I’m from Scotland so anybody that plays cricket gets beaten up. No I really wasn’t big on cricket so all this kind of posturing and kind of confident bowling and pitching is all fake. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. We had a couple guys there show us what to do and that made it easier. But that was a shame because we filmed it in Ireland where nobody plays cricket so we all were a little bit lost to tell you the truth.” |
Cricket may not be the national sport in Ireland but they are well known for their friendly pubs. |
“What are you talking about? What are you suggesting? Yes I suppose I did sample a few pints of Guinness and it really does taste better in Ireland but not too much because working hard and all that you got to get to bed early.” |
Becoming Jane was shot in Dublin as it’s Georgian architecture still resembles the essence of 1795 as well as Higginsbrook House in County Meath which doubled as the Austen home. |
