UGK EARNS FIRST NUMBER ONE ALBUM
UGK grabs the top spot on Billboard 200 albums chart….. |
UGK’s new album, Underground Kingz, entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at Number One this week after selling 160,000 copies its first week in stores.The group’s last effort, 2001’s Dirty Money, sold 98,000 copies its first week in stores to debut at Number 18. The new album features collaborations with Rick Ross, Scarface, Three 6 Mafia, Slim Thug, Lil Jon, Akon, Mannie Fresh, Swizz Beatz, Marley Marl, and others. |
UGK is originally from Port Arthur Texas but the group also calls Houston, Texas home. Group member Bun B shared that he was happy that artists such as Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Mike Jones, and Slim Thug, have emerged into national stars because the city of Houston deserves it. The rapper said, |
“I’m really happy for the city of Houston because they supported these guys for so long. They bought so much of this music. Like some of this stuff that we’re putting out, some of it is reissued and these people have been listening to it for two, three years. But they’re still go out that first week and buy this music again and they’re still call up and request these songs that they’ve already heard before. And they still fully come out and support these cats. And I’m really happy for Houston cause now everything they’ve been saying to their cousins and friends out of town and out of state, everybody gets to see now.” |
The latest single from the album is “International Players Anthem” featuring OutKast. |
