HATEBREED PROVING THEY HAVE THE TALENT TO BE A CROSS OVER HI
Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed talks about the band having the talent to be a crossover hit in the mainstream, which is a challange for any metal band. |
After performing on yet another Ozzfest tour this summer, perrenial hardcore metal favorites Hatebreed, are proving to the world that they have the talent to be a crossover hit and make a name for themselves in the mainstream culture, which can be a daunting task for any metal band. Since 2201, Hatebreed have been performing on the traveling Metal Summer Camp, Ozzfest, and each year they seem to be gaining more and more fans and more and more momentum with each passing album and with each passing tour. |
We caught up with Hatebreed’s lead vocalist, Jamey Jasta to talk about the challanges metal bands have in being a cross over hit. |
“It is, but that’s why we’re here. That’s why Hatebreed’s here. It’s hard to break through but we were a band that proved that it could be done. On Ozzfest, back in 2001, we showed the world that we could crossover with all these Rock and Nu Metal type bands. We really made our case and ever since that year it’s been heavier and heavier.” |
We also talked with Jasta about the direct correlation of selling their albums and performing on Ozzfest, which year after year continues to bring in new fans to the scene. |
“Yeah I mean at that time our record had been out for four years and then all of a sudden we were selling a thousand records a week just being on Ozzfest. It just goes to show how many people had never heard of us and didn’t even know about the band and we thought ‘Man we’ve done so many tours with Danzig and Sepultura and Motorhead how do these people not know who we are?’ But it really is a whole new audience each year. It’s a lot of regenerated fans. People are coming with their parents now and their parents have seen Ozzy and these are fifteen or sixteen year old kids. So, it’s good. Every year there’s new kids and that’s the best thing to see, all the new kids that are getting into this music.” |
Hatebreed are currently touring on Ozzfest for the month of August, with dates extending until August 30th in Florida. Look for Hatebreed to continus touring in support of the bands latest release ‘Supremacy ‘ after taking a short break after Ozzfest. |
