HIM SET TO RELEASE A DARKER HEAVIER VENUS DOOM
Finnish rock band H.I.M. are set to release Venus Doom and the band talks about their darkest and heaviest album yet. |
Finnish rock band H.I.M. are set to release their latest album, ‘Venus Doom’ and the album will be the highly anticipated follow up to 2005’s ‘Dark Light,’ which became their breakout album in the United States, debuting in the top 20 of the Billboard Top 200 and spawning two major rock hits, “Wings of a Butterfly” and “Killing Loneliness.’ On Venus Doom, lead vocalist Ville Valo and bassist Mikko Paananen reveal the album is by far their darkest and heaviest album to date. |
We caught up with Ville and Mikko, who are about to wrap up their Summer tour on Linkin Park’s Project Revolution Tour to discuss the longer songs on ‘Venus Doom’ and to share their thoughts on which band influenced the album. |
“It’s going to be out September 18th, 2007 so it’s not going to be like ‘Chinese Democracy.’ It’s a little more tough and rough and organic and doomy and gloomy and spooky than the one before. The one before was a pretty straight forward rock album. This one has a lot more Sabbath influence, it’s a lot heavier really with longer song.” |
We also talked with H.I.M’s singer songwriter, Ville about the emotionally heavy ‘Venus Doom’ being influenced by a lot of darkness and depression he was going through in his own life. |
“Emotionally it’s the heaviest. When I was writing the songs I went through a lot of s**t, so of course it shows on the album. Everybody’s always saying that ‘It’s the most personable album, it’s the greatest album so far, it’s the heaviest album so far, it’s the most in your face album and it’s going to change the world of music.’ We’re not saying any of that. We don’t have to. ‘(Paananen) It’s obvious.’ ‘(Valo) And now let’s start rolling on the floor.'” |
The first single off of ‘Venus Doom’ is ‘Kiss of Dawn’ and the album is scheduled for release on September 17, 2007 internationally and September 18, 2007 in The U.S. H.I.M will conclude their tour dates on Project Revolution September 3rd in Colorado. The band also has tour dates scheduled for the U.K. in December. Look for the band to announce a long list of headlining tour dates in support of ‘Venus Doom’ that will undoubtedly take the band into 2008. |
